Men’s basketball falls to The Apprentice School

In the only Virginia Peninsula men’s basketball game last week, the Gators fell to The Apprentice School 62-46 on Jan. 21. The Gators (7-5) led the hosts 23-22 late in the first half, but gave up the final four points before the break. The Builders (11-6, 6-0) outscored the Gators 36-23 in the second half for the victory in the New South Athletic Conference game.

Javion Majette had 14 points to lead the Gators in scoring. Keshaun Johnson had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

This week, the Gators have two home games: Jan. 28 vs. Central International College at 5 p.m., and Jan. 29 vs. the Virginia State JV team at 3 p.m.

Tickets: General admission $8, VPCC student with ID free, faculty/staff with ID $5, children under 12 free.

Women lose two games

The women’s team lost a pair of games late week, 71-52 to Bryant & Stratton on Jan. 16, and 64-41 to The Apprentice School on Jan. 21. Against Apprentice (5-5, 1-0), the Gators led 14-9 before the hosts took control. Ryan Bendixen scored 18 points, Karrin Purchase nine, and Da’Naiyah Darnell had eight. Nia Williamson rounded out the scoring with six points.

The Gators have just one game this week, Jan. 28 at home against Harford Community College at 3 p.m.
